PSFPD Fire Station & Community Center Project
Phase 1 nearing completion
Phase 1 of the Fire Station & Community Center Project, a new 4-bay garage, is nearing completion. Our volunteer firefighters have moved equipment and temporary operations into the new structure in preparation for Phase 2.
Phase 2 Contract Awarded
The PSFPD Board of Directors awarded the Pinewood Springs Fire Station & Community Center Remodel (Phase 2) to Cactus Ridge Construction in early March 2017.
Phase 1 Construction Continues
Erecting the 4-bay garage structure in March 2017.
Construction continues in February 2017; pouring foundation walls.
PSFPD Fire Station & Community Center Project Phase 2 RFP issued
On February 1, 2017 PSFPD issued a public RFP for the Fire Station and Community Center Project Phase 2: remodel of the current building.
Community Center Restricted Access
The construction team has decided to close all public access to the community room at the Fire Station effective February 1, 2017.
Progress on the new garage building is proceeding ahead of schedule. The grading is complete, and excavation for the foundation for the new garage is underway. Shortly thereafter, concrete work will begin. As you have probably seen, the terrain along the west edge of the existing building is changing on a daily basis. The black insulating tarps are very slippery with snow on them. The team feels it’s too dangerous for community members and the public to be walking around the construction site, especially at night.
Alternative Meeting Space Available
The Pinewood Springs Community Church has offered use of the Community Church Fellowship Hall for meetings normally held at the Fire Station Community Room. Fire Board, Road Board, Water Board and PSPOA meeting dates will automatically be moved to the Church Fellowship Hall; same times & dates. If you have any questions, please contact Gabi at 303.823.5345.
PSFPD Fire Station & Community Center Phase 1 Construction underway
Construction and prep work are underway, with a targeted completion timeline for Phase 1 in Spring 2017.
Working with Pinewood Springs Water District on new water line in Dec 2016.
Phase 1 Contract Awarded in mid-November
Following a public bid process, the Fire Board awarded the PSFPD Fire Station & Community Center Phase 1 contract for excavation & construction of a 4-bay garage to Colorado-based Schauer Construction on November 16, 2016.
The 4-bay garage will be built immediately adjacent to our current Fire Station (digital concept drawing below). Prep work is underway, with Phase 1 construction slated to begin in January. The targeted completion timeline is Spring 2017.
Emergency Services will remain operational through all construction phases.
Phase 2 of the project will be an extensive remodel of the existing Fire Station structure, targeted to begin in 2017. This 2-phased approach allows the Fire Board to achieve our community goals and stay within budget.
PSFPD Fire Station and Community Center New RFP issued
On Sept 29, 2016 PSFPD issued a public RFP for the Fire Station and Community Center Project.
Update on RFP process for Fire Station and Community Center Project
As reported in early August, round 1 of project bids were rejected by the Fire Board as unacceptable due to severely inflated construction costs seen across Colorado. Based on these market conditions, the Fire Board and project teams are working closely with the county and DOLA on a hybrid project plan: a 4-bay garage addition and refurbishing the existing structure.
PSFPD Fire Station and Community Center Project RFP issued
On June 16, 2016 PSFPD issued a public RFP for the Fire Station and Community Center Project.
DOLA Grant Update
On April 6, 2016 we learned that our community will be granted full budget matching funds of $406,000 for the PSFPD Fire Station and Community Center Project. A BIG thank you to our community for your ongoing support, many generous contributions and hundreds of volunteer hours.
November 2015 Election Update
The mill levy to provide partial funding for the PSFPD Fire Station & Community Center project was officially certified by Larimer County on November 18th. The count was 203 yes, 197 no. The response rate was 68% of 587 ballots issued. The Fire Board and Construction Project Team submitted our DOLA grant application for matching funds on December 1, 2015 and received notice of the award in early April.
Our Fire District
The Pinewood Springs Fire Protection District provides 24 x 7 x 365 service for the Pinewood Springs Community and highway US-36 from mile marker 8.5 to mile marker 12.75. Those 4+ miles include Dead Man’s Curve, a notorious section of mountain highway.
Annually, over 3 million vehicles pass through Pinewood Springs (on US-36) on their way to scenic Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park – a 30% vehicle increase since 1999 – resulting an ever increasing number of vehicle response calls. In addition, the community population has grown from 123 in the early 60’s to almost 1000 today, leading to more medical and fire calls. As a result, the fire department continues to recruit, train and equip firefighters.
